As defined by Prof.Atul Thakur, (Assistant Professor, IIT Patna), “Robot is traditionally defined as a reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator, designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks”. (Thakur)

The branch of Automation and Robotics Engineering is also defined as, “a field of engineering that deals with the design and creation of robots. They use computers to manipulate and process robotic actions”. 

Robotics and Automation is defining its presence and applications in distinct fields of operation such as Engineering, Medicine, Hospitality, through multiple functionality such as  Machining, Material Handling and surgery.

Multiple distinct sectors of functionality are nowadays using Automation and Robotics for efficiency and cost effectiveness. Thus, an aspirant can find relevant job opportunities in multiple organizations such as Maruti Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, TATA, Bajaj, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, Caterpillar, Escorts, Yamaha, Mahindra & Mahindra.

• Government sector -

There are multiple Government organizations who seek and appoint personnel from the field of Automation and Robotics such as DRDO, ISRO, Indian Railway. The aspirants also have the option to contribute as researchers in institutions such as IIT, IISC, BARC, etc.
